RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora), Erick Thohir has encouraged greater public participation in sports through the Amartha 10X Run at the East Parking Plaza of Gelora Bung Karno (GBK), Senayan, Jakarta, Sunday, September 6, 2026.

Erick Thohir officially started thousands of participants in the event. The running event featured two race categories, the Half Marathon and 10K, which attracted enthusiastic participation.

The Minister said that increasing the number of sporting activities involving the public would have a positive impact on public health. He emphasized that sports should be viewed as a long-term investment in the health and well-being of the community.

“In other words, the more running events we have, the better. This is an investment in health. So, sports are not an expense, but an investment,” Erick Thohir said.

In addition to promoting health, Erick said sports also contribute to character building. Regular physical activity can encourage disciplined, diligent, and strong work ethic, which in turn contribute to strengthening the character of the nation.

Sports activities can also contribute to economic growth. Large-scale running events can stimulate various sectors, including food and beverage businesses, hotels, transportation, and other local MSMEs.

“People who participate in the run eat and drink, some stay at hotels, and so on. So, we support sports from economic standpoint as well,” Minister Erick explained. He also reminded participants to maintain cleanliness and protect the environment throughout the event.
