RRI.CO.ID, Shanghai - Indonesia is strengthening its global cultural presence by promoting international museum collaboration during a visit to Shanghai Saturday, April 25, 2026. The initiative highlights efforts to expand networks and enhance the national art ecosystem.
Minister of Culture, Fadli Zon, made the remarks during his visit to the Museum of Art Pudong (MAP). The visit, based on a release received by RRI Voice of Indonesia, Monday April 27, 2026, forms part of Indonesia’s broader cultural diplomacy agenda.
During the visit, Fadli Zon, reviewed major exhibitions showcasing global artistic dialogue. These included “Picasso Through the Eyes of Paul Smith” and “The Wonder of Patterns: Masterpieces from India, Iran and the Ottoman World.”
He emphasized that museums play a strategic role in connecting cultures across borders and generations. According to him, museums serve as platforms that integrate art, design, history, and cultural heritage into a shared public experience.
“Museums can serve as spaces for cross-cultural, cross-temporal, and cross-disciplinary dialogue, bringing together visual art, design, history, cultural heritage, and public experience in creative ways,” Fadli Zon said.
The Minister also highlighted the importance of strengthening global partnerships through joint exhibitions. He pointed to collaborations with leading institutions such as the Louvre and Musée Picasso as key examples.
“MAP provides an important example of how museums can strengthen global networks through joint exhibitions and cooperation with partner museums around the world,” he added.
Indonesia continues to develop its art ecosystem through curatorial improvements, talent development, and expanded public access. The government aims to position Indonesian museums as active players in the global art landscape.
