RRI.CO.ID, Bekasi Regency - President Prabowo Subianto is pushing for an increase in national electric motor production to reach 2 million units. This step is part of the government's efforts to strengthen the domestic electric vehicle industry while encouraging the public to switch to more efficient vehicles.
Prabowo targets a gradual increase in production to 200 thousand units and subsequently reaching 2 million units. He also asked all parties, including Danantara, to support the development of the national electric motorcycle ecosystem.
"Today, the Indika group has successfully produced 20 thousand motorcycles. I told the Indika group that if you reach 200 thousand, I will come again, and if you reach 2 million, I will come again," Prabowo said at the launch of the National Electric Motorcycle Ecosystem in Bekasi, West Java, Thursday, August 13, 2026.
To expand the use of electric motorcycles, the government will also encourage more affordable financing schemes for the public. The government is working on reducing installment interest rates and the possibility of purchasing electric motorcycles without a down payment.
According to the President, the use of electric motorcycles can reduce mobility costs for the public by up to 50 percent, even reaching 70 percent compared to gasoline-powered vehicles. The government will also consider a trade-in scheme for those who already own gasoline-powered motorcycles to switch to electric motorcycles.
On the industrial side, Prabowo mentioned the development of the national electric motor as an example of collaboration among various domestic forces, ranging from private companies, state-owned enterprises, to the academic world. This collaboration is deemed important to strengthen the mastery of national science and technology.
"Today is, in my opinion, a good example of what I call Indonesia Incorporated," he added.
Prabowo emphasized that strengthening the electric vehicle industry requires collaboration from all national elements. According to him, the ability to master science and technology as well as develop the domestic industry is one of the important factors for Indonesia's progress in the modern era.
