RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian Women Artists #4: On The Map exhibition is being held at the Galeri Nasional Indonesia, highlighting women’s perspectives in Indonesia’s art landscape as it moves toward the international stage. The exhibition underscores the importance of institutional support in strengthening access and visibility for women artists.

The exhibition officially opened, Thursday, April 9, 2026, in Jakarta. It forms part of broader efforts to introduce Indonesian women artists to the global art scene.

A total of 12 women artists from different generations are participating in the exhibition. They explore a range of themes, including the body, nature, and cultural heritage, through contemporary approaches.

The works presented not only reflect the artists’ personal experiences. They also contribute to expanding collective discourse in the development of Indonesian contemporary art.

Head of Museum and Cultural Heritage, Esti Nurjadin, stated that institutional roles are crucial in strengthening the national art ecosystem. She affirmed that art spaces serve as strategic platforms to support the sustainability of artistic practices.

According to her, the National Gallery of Indonesia, as part of the Ministry of Culture, plays a role as an extension of the government. This role is carried out through support, facilitation, and the strengthening of Indonesia’s art ecosystem.

She added that these efforts include providing representative exhibition spaces and strengthening art discourse. In addition, continuous support is needed to ensure that artistic practices gain proper recognition in the public sphere.

The exhibition, which runs until June 30, 2026, marks the conclusion of the Indonesian Women Artists series. This year’s IWA #4: On The Map serves as the final installment before the upcoming Women’s Biennale or Triennale in the future.
