RRI.CO.ID, Hongkong - Indonesia has reinforced its presence on the global contemporary art stage through the “Rising Currents” platform at Art Central Hong Kong 2026, held from March 25 to 29 2026. The initiative is part of the International Recognition stage under the National Talent Management (MTN) program for arts and culture.

Minister of Culture, Fadli Zon, stated that the platform marks a significant milestone in positioning Indonesia’s art ecosystem within global discourse. He said, “The presence of ‘Rising Currents’ reflects a strategic effort to ensure Indonesian artists resonate within the global contemporary art landscape.”

He emphasized that the initiative goes beyond participation, aiming to build a sustainable cultural ecosystem for Indonesian artists. “This is about enabling talents to grow, build networks, and gain stronger recognition internationally,” Fadli said.

The Ministry of Culture has identified the strengthening of the national art ecosystem as a key strategy in advancing cultural diplomacy. Fadli noted, “We continue to encourage talent development, expand networks, and open broader access to international platforms.”

The MTN Arts and Culture program is a national priority initiative designed to identify, nurture, and promote Indonesian cultural talents. It also connects artists with opportunities for capacity building and market access both domestically and globally.

As part of the program’s trajectory, the International Recognition phase provides opportunities for top talents to participate in global events. This stage aims to expand exposure, strengthen networks, and elevate Indonesia’s position in the global art landscape.

“Rising Currents” featured eight Indonesian galleries, representing diverse contemporary artistic practices from across the country. The platform also showcased 17 prominent Indonesian artists, highlighting the richness and diversity of Indonesia’s art scene.

Director General of Cultural Development, Utilization, and Fostering, Ahmad Mahendra, said the initiative fosters collaboration within the art ecosystem. He stated, “Through ‘Rising Currents’, we not only present artworks but also strengthen connectivity among galleries and ensure inclusive participation in the global art arena.”
