RRI.CO.ID, Yogyakarta - Indonesia’s Minister of Culture, Fadli Zon, visited the Museum Perjuangan Yogyakarta Saturday, March 28, 2026. The visit forms part of efforts to strengthen historical awareness among younger generations through improved museum experiences.

The museum presents Indonesia’s struggle for independence from the early nationalist movement to the post-independence period. Its collections include artifacts, dioramas, and exhibitions that are now being enhanced with immersive approaches.

During the visit, Fadli Zon reviewed the revitalized exhibition spaces designed to be more interactive and engaging. He noted that the updated narrative is more contextual and accessible to a wider audience.

“In this museum we can witness the journey of the nation's struggle, starting from the birth of Budi Utomo to the Proclamation of Independence,” he said. The immersive presentation aims to make historical understanding easier for visitors.

The minister also highlighted Yogyakarta’s central role in Indonesia’s history. The city served as the nation’s capital in 1946 and played a significant role during the Dutch military offensives.

He affrimed that the museum’s collections, including works by renowned sculptor Edhi Sunarso, provide a powerful learning experience. The presence of reliefs and historical artifacts helps bring past events to life.

“The younger generation needs to see directly how the history of the nation's struggle is presented here,” he added. He stressed that museums must connect with younger audiences in meaningful ways.

The government hopes the museum will continue to evolve as a dynamic public space for education and reflection. It is expected to play a key role in preserving national memory while making history relevant for contemporary society.
