RRI.CO.ID, Yogyakart - Indonesia’s Minister of Culture, Fadli Zon, visited Dalem Jayadipuran in Yogyakarta, Saturday March 28, 2026. The visit is part of a broader effort to transform heritage sites into active cultural and educational spaces.

Dalem Jayadipuran is a protected cultural property built in 1847 with significant historical and architectural value. The government aims to revitalize the site through a more structured and engaging public use.

During the visit, Fadli Zon stressed the importance of preserving the building’s historical legacy. He highlighted its role as a witness to key moments in Indonesia’s national journey.

“This building is an important cultural heritage that has witnessed various historical events,” he said. He added that the site should be developed into a museum that presents these historical narratives to the public.

The building is closely linked to Indonesia’s early nationalist movement. It once hosted activities of Jong Java, contributing to youth organization movements that culminated in the 1928 Youth Pledge.

Dalem Jayadipuran also played a role in the First Indonesian Women’s Congress, now commemorated as National Mother’s Day. The site has long served as a venue for intellectual and cultural activities.

"We are currently developing an idea so that this place can become the Mataram Museum, as well as a public space,” Fadli Zon said. The initiative aims to fill gaps in the national museum landscape regarding the Mataram civilization.

The government hopes the site will evolve into a dynamic public space that supports education and cultural engagement. It is expected to strengthen public understanding of Indonesia’s historical narratives while remaining accessible to a broad audience.
