RRI.CO.ID, Pacitan - Indonesia’s Minister of Culture, Fadli Zon, visited a historic guerrilla headquarters linked to General Sudirman in Nawangan, Pacitan, East Java, Friday, March 27, 2026. The site played a crucial role during the final phase of Indonesia’s struggle for independence against Dutch forces.

The house served as a key command post for the Indonesian National Armed Forces during the Dutch Military Aggression II from April to July 1949. It was one of several locations where General Sudirman led mobile guerrilla operations before returning to Yogyakarta.

During the visit, Fadli Zon underscored the importance of the site in preserving the narrative of Indonesia’s resistance. He noted that the continued struggle on the ground proved the nation’s existence despite Dutch claims that the republic had ceased to exist.

"The Dutch had violated the ceasefire agreement and then General Sudirman led the guerrillas and moved from place to place. he said. The statement highlighted how military resistance continued despite diplomatic setbacks.

The minister also underlined the strategic role of guerrilla warfare in strengthening Indonesia’s diplomatic position internationally. Armed resistance across Java and Sumatra signaled to the world that Indonesia remained active and determined to defend its sovereignty.

"Because of the physical resistance that existed in Sumatra and in Java, including being led by General Sudirman in Java in particular, it gave a signal to our delegation that Indonesia still existed. he added. This demonstrated how battlefield resilience supported diplomatic efforts abroad.

In addition to the headquarters, the minister visited the Sudirman Monument complex located in the same area. The site features a main monument, dioramas of guerrilla warfare, and educational spaces that illustrate the general’s military strategies.

The visit reflects the government’s commitment to preserving historical sites as educational resources and symbols of national identity. Authorities aim to ensure that such locations remain relevant, inspiring future generations with values of resilience, determination, and patriotism.
