RRI.CO.ID, Yogyakarta - Muhammadiyah has officially announced that Eid al-Fitr, marking Shawal 1, 1447 Hijri, will be observed on Friday, March 20, 2026. The announcement was delivered by Muhammadiyah Chairman Haedar Nashir during a Ramadan gathering with the media on Monday, March 16, 2026.

Haedar encouraged Muhammadiyah members and Muslims across Indonesia to perform the Eid prayer in open fields. If circumstances do not allow, he noted, prayers may be held in mosques or other suitable venues.

This year’s celebration carries added significance as it coincides with Nyepi, the Hindu Day of Silence in Bali. Haedar urged Muslims in Bali to respect the solemnity of Nyepi by avoiding activities that could disturb the observance.

“Especially for Muhammadiyah members, mosque caretakers, and Muslims in Bali, it is hoped that out of respect, there will be no takbir processions or use of loudspeakers. Takbir can be performed at home or in mosques without amplification,” he explained.

He also emphasized that differences in determining the date of Eid should be met with mutual respect. Haedar encouraged the use of public spaces for Eid prayers, regardless of variations in celebration dates among different Islamic groups.

“At its core, let us make Eid al-Fitr -- whether in unity or in difference -- a moment to draw upon and implement the enlightening sources of religion for our lives: personally, within families, in society, as a nation, and even globally,” Haedar concluded. ***
