RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Public interest in train travel for the 2026 Eid al-Fitr exodus continues to rise. As of mid-March, ticket reservations for departures from Jakarta had reached more than 681,000, or about 63 percent of the total seating capacity.

Public Relations Manager of state-owned railway company PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI), Operational Area 1 Jakarta, Franoto Wibowo, said that during the 22-day Eid al-Fitr transportation period, KAI has prepared more than 1,076,000 seats to meet public demand. “Over these 22 days, we have prepared more than 1,076,000 seats,” Franoto said in Jakarta on Friday, March 13, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

Based on booking data, several dates are the most popular for travelers departing from Jakarta. The peak departure period is expected on March 18, followed by March 19, March 20, March 17, and March 16. Popular destinations include Yogyakarta, Surabaya, Semarang, Purwokerto, Bandung, and Jember.

Although certain dates are in high demand, KAI confirmed that tickets remain available during the Eid period and reservations can still be made. Passenger numbers at Pasar Senen Station have also begun to increase, with 18,657 passengers departing on Friday, March 13, compared to around 16,000 the previous day.

To anticipate passenger demand, KAI has added 19 additional train trips for the Eid period, including 12 departures from Gambir Station and 7 from Pasar Senen Station.

In addition, the Directorate General of Railways of the Ministry of Transportation is organizing four free motorbike train trips to accommodate travelers bringing motorcycles home for Eid. ***
