RRI.CO.ID. Jakarta : Operation Ketupat 2026, run by the Indonesian Police, officially ended on March 25, 2026. But police will keep watching the roads until March 29, for returning travellers. In a press conference on Thursday, March 26, Head of Task Force of Public Relation of Ketupat Operation, Brigadier General Tjahyono Saputro stated that overall, this year's Eid travel was safe and smooth, even though many more people travelled than last year.
As of March 25, over 2.5 million cars left Jakarta, and nearly 2 million have already returned. About 42% of travellers are still expected to come back between March 28-29. So, the police are staying ready for this second wave of return traffic.
He said the busiest time for leaving Jakarta was March 18-19, breaking past records. The busiest return was March 24-25. This smooth flow was possible because of smart traffic management, like contraflow and one-way systems, plus using extra toll roads. Ferry ports, airports, and train stations also stayed organized and safe.
In the other hand, Good news on safety: traffic accidents dropped by 5.75%, and deaths from accidents fell by over 30% compared to last year. This shows people were careful, and police efforts worked well. During the operation, there were no major crimes or safety problems. Everything, from going home for Eid to the Eid celebrations and Nyepi Day, went safely and peacefully.
Ketupat Operation wasn't just about traffic. It also secured many public places like mosques, tourist spots, main roads, and ports. Police guarded thousands of locations with many security and service posts as well as the use of advanced technology such as the Traffic Corps Command Center and ETLE Patrol. They also offered free mudik programs and used advanced technology like traffic command canters to help everyone.
Brigadier General Tjahyono thanked everyone who helped make Operation Ketupat 2026 a success. Police also advised people to use toll discounts and work-from-home options to spread out their return travel. They reminded everyone to call 110 if they need help. The police will keep working until all travellers are safely home.
