RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs has officially issued Ministerial Regulation No. 9/2026, derived from Government Regulation (PP) No. 17/2025, also known as PP Tunas.

Communication and Digital Affairs Minister Meutya Hafid emphasized that age restrictions for children accessing official digital platforms will be enforced.

“Through this regulation, the government will suspend access to accounts for children under 16 years of age on high-risk digital platforms, including social media and networking services,” said Minister Meutya in her official statement in Jakarta on Friday, March 6, 2026.

She stressed that the regulation was issued to protect children from threats in the digital space. “From exposure to pornography, cyberbullying, online fraud, and most importantly, addiction. The government is here so that parents no longer have to fight the giant algorithms alone,” she said.

Minister Meutya explained that with the enactment of PP Tunas, children’s accounts on digital platforms will be deactivated immediately. She acknowledged that the regulation may cause discomfort among the public but said it is expected to reduce complaints about children’s addiction in the digital space.

“The implementation phase begins on March 28, 2026. Accounts of children under the age of 16 on high-risk platforms will start to be deactivated,” she added. (Gusti Panji/Lasti Martina)
