RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Ministry of Communication and Digital (Kemkomdigi) has received a formal compliance commitment from YouTube regarding Government Regulation (PP) No. 17/2025, known as PP Tunas.
YouTube, under Google, submitted its letter of commitment directly to the Directorate General of Digital Space Supervision (Ditjen PRD). “Today, the government would like to express its appreciation to YouTube for officially submitting a letter of compliance to the Director General of Digital Space Supervision,” Communication and Digital Minister Meutya Hafid said at a press conference at the Kemkomdigi office in Jakarta on Wednesday, April 22, 2026.
YouTube will begin implementing PP Tunas and comply with its derivative policies, including Ministerial Regulation (Permenkomdigi) No. 9/2026. Under these rules, platforms are required to protect children in the digital space by restricting access to accounts for users under 16.
“Today, there are visible changes. It is clear that YouTube has implemented a notification regarding the minimum age limit of 16. YouTube has already provided a plan to deactivate children’s accounts,” Minister Meutya said.
She added that YouTube’s compliance also includes introducing an advertising content filtering system. “Going forward, YouTube will eliminate advertisements targeting children and adolescents. We will continue to communicate regarding the enforcement of this regulation,” she said.
Minister Meutya revealed that seven of the eight platforms identified as high-risk have already submitted compliance commitments, including X, Bigolive, Meta (Instagram, Facebook, Threads), TikTok, and YouTube. One platform, Roblox, has not yet fully committed. “Roblox is still communicating. Hopefully, in the near future, we will see similar compliance,” she said.
PP Tunas officially took effect on March 28, 2026. The government believes full compliance will help prevent negative impacts in the digital space for children under 16 and strengthen child protection online. (Misni Parjiati/Lasti Martina)
