RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia's Ministry of Villages and Development of Disadvantaged Regions is working with 10 village associations to accelerate the implementation of the Red and White Village/Subdistrict Cooperatives (KDKMP), a flagship program of President Prabowo Subianto aimed at strengthening rural economies. Minister Yandri Susanto said village communities and local governments will play a central role in ensuring the program's success.
Yandri made the remarks during a limited coordination meeting chaired by Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs, Zulkifli Hasan, at the Coordinating Ministry for Food Affairs in Jakarta on Tuesday July 28, 2026. The meeting focused on finalizing outstanding issues related to a draft Presidential Regulation on the governance of the nationwide cooperative program.
The minister said the implementation of KDKMP will involve village heads, village consultative bodies (BPD), and other village officials to ensure broad participation at the local level. According to him, strong support from village governments and residents is essential for the program to deliver tangible economic benefits.
"The success of these village cooperatives depends on the full support of the people, including village governments," Yandri said. He added that the ministry and the 10 village associations will continue conducting outreach programs so rural communities can better understand the objectives and benefits of the initiative.
Meanwhile, Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs, Zulkifli Hasan, described the Red and White Village Cooperative program as one of the government's most important and ambitious initiatives. He acknowledged that implementing the nationwide program would present significant challenges, but said it also offers substantial opportunities for rural development.
Zulkifli said the government's target of establishing 83,000 village and subdistrict cooperatives would transform rural communities into new centers of economic growth across Indonesia. "By October 2026, we hope the benefits of the Red and White Village Cooperatives will begin to be felt by communities," he said.
The coordination meeting also reviewed pending issues among ministries and government agencies regarding the draft Presidential Regulation that will provide the legal framework for the cooperative program. The regulation is expected to support effective governance and implementation of the initiative nationwide.
The meeting was attended by several cabinet ministers and senior government officials, including Minister of Cooperatives Ferry Juliantono, Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman, Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin, Minister of Social Affairs Saifullah Yusuf, and President Director of Agrinas Pangan Nusantara Joao Mota. Their participation underscored the government's coordinated approach to advancing one of its key rural development priorities.
