RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto is targeting the completion of 1,000 fishermen’s villages in 2026 and 5,000 villages by 2029 as part of efforts to strengthen the fisheries sector.

Speaking at the Indonesia Economic Outlook 2026 event at Wisma Danantara on Friday, February 13, 2026, President Prabowo said the government had begun developing fishermen’s villages and expected the total to reach 1,000 this year.

“Each fishermen’s village consists of several hundred fishermen, ranging from 300 to 500, and in some cases up to 2,000 fishermen,” he said.

President Prabowo said that in the past, fishermen had not received sufficient government attention. Many faced difficulties obtaining diesel fuel and lacked cold storage facilities to preserve their catch. The new fishermen’s villages will therefore be equipped with supporting infrastructure.

The government plans to build ports and docks to enable fishermen to market their fishery products and export them. Various operational needs in the villages will be managed through cooperatives.

“We are changing this. In the next four years, we will build 5,000 fishermen’s villages. In each village, we will build ice factories, cold storage facilities and docks, distribute boats and prepare vehicles,” the President said.

“This is not a handout. We are not giving anything away. We are organizing them into cooperatives, and all their expenses will be repaid to banks and the government,” he added.

The government will also allow villages to export their fish catches to help stimulate the economy and will simplify regulations to facilitate direct exports.

“We will open ports and airfields for direct exports. We will simplify regulations so that they can develop basic economic activities,” President Prabowo said. ***
