RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian government has been urged to rehabilitate the psychological and economic conditions of victims of human trafficking (TPPO). The Head of the National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM), Anis Hidayah, said the current rehabilitation mechanism remains inadequate.

“Regarding the psychological and medical recovery of victims and helping them access new job opportunities, we still have a lot of work to do,” Anis said in a discussion with Pro3 RRI on Thursday, February 12, 2026.

Senior Manager of Migrant Care, Mulyadi, noted that protection in frontier areas is still limited. He said the management of the migrant worker protection ecosystem remains centralized and has not reached the grassroots level. “We need to build a protection ecosystem in frontier areas. We must acknowledge that these areas have been left out of the safe migration and anti-human trafficking management system,” he said.

Earlier, the Chair of the National Network for Anti-Human Trafficking (Jarnas Anti-TPPO), Rahayu Saraswati, reported that there were 300 cases of human trafficking in 2025. “Of the 300 cases, 24 victims were aged 13–17 years, but most cases involved victims aged 22–27 years,” she said in Jakarta on Thursday, February 12.

Rahayu said human trafficking is a critical issue that must be eradicated. She stressed that the government needs to take a firm stance against it. Jarnas Anti-TPPO will push for a revision of Law No. 21/2007 on human trafficking and will collaborate with cross-sector ministries to strengthen efforts.

“This is all an effort to unify our views, and hopefully we can reach an agreement on the law that we will submit for revision to the House of Representatives,” Rahayu said. ***
