RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian Health Ministry is finalizing its National Action Plan (RAN) for Dengue Control for the 2026–2029 period, a strategic move to reduce cases and deaths from the mosquito-borne disease nationwide.
Director General for Disease Control at the ministry, Murti Utami, emphasized that single interventions are no longer sufficient to curb dengue transmission. She noted that rapid urbanization, climate change, and increased mobility demand a more integrated and preventive approach.
“Strong surveillance, community engagement, cross-sector collaboration, and continuous innovation must work together so we can stay one step ahead of dengue,” Murti said in Jakarta on Monday, February 9, as published on the Health Ministry’s official website.
The upcoming plan will focus on strengthening early detection and diagnosis, improving clinical management and referral systems, advancing integrated prevention through vector control and vaccination, and building a comprehensive surveillance and early warning system.
Director for Communicable Diseases, Prima Yosephine, highlighted the importance of integration at the community level. “We must control the environment, the mosquito vector, and the human host through vaccination. All three must move forward together in a comprehensive way,” she said.
The government has pledged to continue its Wolbachia mosquito program, currently operating in five cities, with a gradual expansion to up to 100 cities. At the same time, the Health Ministry is encouraging local governments to independently adopt dengue vaccination.
Suir Syam, chair of the Fight Dengue Joint Coalition (KOBAR), stressed that success depends on synergy between the central government and local administrations and active community participation. “The central government cannot work alone. Communities and local administrations must act together to prevent dengue at its source,” he said.
Through this strategy, Indonesia aims to strengthen national health resilience while contributing to the global target of “Zero Dengue Deaths by 2030.” ***
