Indonesia, Australia Boost Creative Economy Strategic Collaboration

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia and Australia have agreed to further strengthen cooperation in the creative economy sector following a high-level meeting in Jakarta. The discussion focused on expanding cross-sector collaboration and building long-term strategic partnerships between the two countries.
Minister of Creative Economy and Head of the Creative Economy Agency, Teuku Riefky Harsya, received a courtesy visit from Australia’s Minister for the Arts, Anthony Stephen Burke, at Autograph Tower, Jakarta, Wednesday, 28 January 2026. The meeting marked a continuation of bilateral efforts to enhance synergy in the creative industries.
He also expressed appreciation for the successful collaborations achieved throughout 2025. These included the 10th anniversary of the Australia–Indonesia Film Festival, business matching activities in Sydney through the S’RASA program promoting Indonesian spices, and a cooperation agreement with Canva Inc. to support Indonesian creative entrepreneurs.
“Indonesia–Australia creative economy cooperation continues to grow from year to year,” Teuku Riefky said. “We hope 2026 will become a key phase to expand cross-subsector collaboration and strengthen the strategic partnership between our two countries.”
He emphasized that the collaboration aligns with Indonesia’s national agenda to position the creative economy as a new engine of growth that is globally competitive and innovation-driven. According to him, international partnerships are essential to achieving this goal.
“This cooperation is directed at enabling Indonesian creative economy players to move up the value chain, connect with global markets and talent, and play a more active role in international value chains,” the minister stated.
Both ministers also discussed several strategic plans for the future, including preparations for the Australia Awards Indonesia short course program in the animation subsector, the organization of the 11th Australia–Indonesia Film Festival, and Australia’s participation in the World Conference on Creative Economy 2026. Teuku Riefky formally invited Minister Burke to attend the conference in Jakarta.
Minister Tony Burke welcomed the bolsters cooperation and highlighted the significant opportunities it offers for both countries. “If we continue to share optimistic progress in our cooperation, this will be a very exciting time for both of our nations,” he said.
