RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta: The Indonesian National Energy Council (DEN) is preparing energy buffer reserves as an anticipatory measure to strengthen Indonesia’s energy security, according to DEN member for environmental affairs, Saleh Abdulrahman.

“Energy is needed across Indonesia. Fuel is used daily, while LPG is still imported. We must reduce dependence on imports, and coordination is underway to establish energy buffer reserves,” Saleh said during an interview with Pro3 RRI on Thursday, January 29, 2026.

He added that DEN will also push for greater energy diversification in the transportation sector, which is aimed at reducing reliance on imported supplies. “The potential for energy diversification is significant. We have vast bioethanol resources,” he noted.

Meanwhile, Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi stated that the establishment of DEN is intended to accelerate Indonesia’s path toward energy self-sufficiency. The council is expected to support the expansion of electrification programs and the ongoing energy transition.

“With the inauguration of the National Energy Council today, we hope preparations can move faster, especially in pursuing several priority programs,” Minister Prasetyo said.

He acknowledged that managing the energy sector is not an easy challenge for the government, with issues ranging from boosting oil production to advancing new and renewable energy development. (Gusti Panji/Sri Wahyuni)
