President Inaugurates Members of National Energy Council

RRI.CO.ID, JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto inaugurated National Energy Council members at the State Palace, Jakarta, on Wednesday, January 28, 2026. The president inaugurated council members from government representatives and prominent national stakeholders.

Government members include the Energy & Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia as the chairman alongside several other ministers as council members. They are ministers of finance , national development planning, transportation, industry, agriculture, environment, as well as higher-education, science, and technology.

Quoted from Cabinet Secretariat press release, there are also eight national stakeholders appointed as the council members. Among them were Mohamad Fadhil Hasan, a founder of Institute for Development of Economics and Finance (INDEF) and Johni Jonatan Numberi, an academician.

The president took oath from the appointed members who later signed the inauguration minutes. The inauguration was based on the Presidential Decree no. 134/P 2025 on the Dismissal and Appointment of National Energy Council Members from Stakeholders and Presidential Decree no 6/P 2026 on Appointment of National Energy Council Members from Government.

The newly appointed chairman of the National Energy Council saw the inauguration as a new chapter in the nation's energy sector. "This reflects the president's commitment that has special concern in positioning energy as development priority scale," said Bahlil Lahadalia on Presidential Secretariat's website.

According to him, the National Energy Council will soon hold its initial meeting and report outcomes directly to the president. The main focus as instructed by President Prabowo is energy sovereignty without foreign intervention and energy resilience.

The other focus is energy self-sufficiency. Bahlil said the ultimate objective remains achieving national energy self-sufficiency.
