RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian Law Minister Supratman Andi Agtas confirmed the adjustment of citizenship fees for both naturalization and renunciation. He said the increase aims to improve public services, as the regulation on Non‑Tax State Revenue (PNBP) has remained unchanged for a decade.

“The fee adjustment is being made to improve services. The regulation on Non‑Tax State Revenue has not been revised for 10 years,” Minister Supratman told reporters at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Monday, July 20, 2026.

He noted that one of the topics under discussion is the increase in fees for foreign nationals applying for Indonesian citizenship. The previous fee of IDR 50 million (approximately USD 3,000) has been raised to IDR 75 million (around USD 4,182).

Minister Supratman emphasized that the higher fee for naturalization poses no issue, as applicants generally have a stable economic background.

He explained that foreign nationals seeking Indonesian citizenship must have steady employment and have lived in Indonesia for five consecutive years or ten non‑consecutive years.

“The old rate was IDR 50 million, but now it’s IDR 75 million. That’s not a problem. Those who wish to become citizens are typically people with stronger economic means,” he said.

The minister also confirmed an increase in the fee for renouncing Indonesian citizenship, from IDR 1 million (about USD 60) to IDR 5 million (around USD 280).

He added that there is no cause for concern regarding those who choose to renounce their citizenship, as the number remains relatively small.

“It might be 100, 200, or 300 out of a population of 300 million. What should we worry about? Currently, the total number of applicants at the Ministry of Law is only around 200 to 300, so it’s not a national issue,” Minister Supratman said.

He further explained that maintaining the government’s digital system requires funding. The minister said the digital transformation is part of President Prabowo Subianto’s directive.

“We will hold a coordination meeting with 14 to 15 ministries and institutions to accelerate the digital transformation requested by the president. Maintaining all this equipment requires effort from the state to ensure that digital services at the Ministry of Law run smoothly,” he emphasized.

The adjustment is stipulated under Government Regulation (PP) No. 30/2026, which was enacted on July 2, 2026, and will take effect on August 1, 2026, thirty days after promulgation. (Misni Parjiati)
