RRI.CO.ID, Nusantara - The Nusantara Capital Authority (OIKN) has taken firm action to uphold urban order, spatial planning, and public safety by dismantling 39 illegal scrap metal trading sites and 18 unlicensed alcoholic beverage stalls within the Nusantara Capital City (IKN) area on Thursday, 15 January 2026.
This operation reflects OIKN’s strong commitment to maintaining a safe, orderly, and well-planned environment in Indonesia’s future capital.
The joint operation was led by Deputy for Development Control, Thomas Umbu Pati, accompanied by Special Staff for Public Safety and Security, Inspector General of Police Edgar Diponegoro, and Director of Public Order and Security, Brigadier General of Police Fransiscus Barung Mangera. The enforcement team included personnel from Sepaku Police, the Indonesian Army and the Mahakam Nusantara Task Force.
Deputy for Development Control, Thomas Umbu Pati emphasized that the enforcement action was conducted in response to community complaints regarding disturbances to public order and security.
“This operation is a preventive and anticipatory response to growing public concerns. It is also linked to previous cases of construction material theft in the IKN area,” he stated.
He further explained that unchecked illegal activities could lead to broader social and security risks. “If left unmanaged, such activities may escalate into social unrest, disrupt public order, and undermine the safety and quality of life in Nusantara,” he said.
The enforcement was carried out in a measured and procedural manner. Investigations confirmed that all dismantled structures violated existing licensing requirements and spatial planning regulations applicable in the IKN area.
Prior to the demolition, OIKN had undertaken persuasive and administrative measures, including issuing formal warning letters on 8 January 2026. These steps involved sealing the premises and providing guidance to business owners, encouraging compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
OIKN remains committed to developing Nusantara as a green, well-organized, and sustainable capital city, in line with its long-term vision. All business operators are encouraged to proactively consult with authorities and ensure compliance with licensing and zoning regulations.
To support this, OIKN provides streamlined licensing services through its official offices and a public hotline at +62 811-5000-5555. Through continued collaboration, transparency, and public participation, OIKN aims to ensure that the development of Nusantara proceeds in a safe, orderly, and inclusive manner.
As Indonesia’s future capital, Nusantara belongs to all of us. Collective awareness and shared responsibility are essential to building a capital city that reflects a sustainable and forward-looking future.
