KBRN, Jakarta: The Indonesian Ministry of Culture is preparing a professional certification program aimed at recognizing and expanding career opportunities for ministry employees, artists, and cultural workers, according to Deputy Minister of Culture Giring Ganesha Djumaryo.
“This is part of our ongoing certification initiative. I’ll be working with the team to ensure that batik artists and other cultural practitioners are included. Certification opens the gateway to opportunity and recognition,” Giring said after inaugurating a batik exhibition in Jakarta on Monday, October 20, 2025, as quoted by antaranews.com.
He added that the program will not be limited to artists alone. All ministry staff, across departments, will eventually be required to hold professional certification.
“Let me give you a hint. Soon, every employee at the Ministry of Culture will need to be certified,” he said.
Drawing from his own background in the music industry, Giring shared that he plans to pursue certification as a singer and songwriter. Meanwhile, Minister of Culture Fadli Zon has opted for certification as a historical writer and temple restoration specialist.
Giring emphasized that cultural certification offers more than just formal recognition. It also provides protection for artists and cultural workers. He reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to supporting creative professionals, including batik artisans.
The broader goal, he said, is to advance Indonesian culture in ways that strengthen national identity, preserve cultural heritage, and improve community welfare through a culture-based economy.
Minister Fadli Zon previously stated that the ministry supports a wide range of cultural advancement efforts led by various institutions. He stressed that promoting culture is not solely the responsibility of the Ministry of Culture, but a shared national duty as mandated by Article 32, Paragraph 1 of the Indonesian Constitution.
“The state is tasked with advancing Indonesia’s national culture, not just within the country, but also on the global stage. In this effort, the role of scholars, artists, and cultural figures is vital. They must be at the forefront of promoting our national culture,” Minister Fadli said. ***
