RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Strengthening global cooperation in public service oversight, the Indonesian Ombudsman (ORI) and Portland Ombudsman shared experiences during a knowledge‑exchange meeting in Jakarta on Monday, May 4, 2026.
ORI Secretary‑General Suganda Pandapotan Pasaribu welcomed the opportunity to learn from Portland’s practices ahead of the international seminar scheduled for May 5–6.
“We are preparing this seminar carefully, inviting government agencies, local administrations, and universities across Indonesia,” he said, as quoted by Antara.
Suganda outlined ORI’s nationwide presence, with representative offices in 34 provinces and plans to expand to four more. He noted that ORI employs 1,216 staff divided into substantive and support functions, tasked with monitoring public services and preventing maladministration.
Portland Ombudsman representative Jennifer Croft explained that their office operates as a division under the city auditor in Portland, USA.
She emphasized its mission to ensure fair and equitable city governance, handling public complaints, conducting impartial investigations, and issuing recommendations when complaints are substantiated.
“We may be a small team, but we ensure that basic public service needs are met by the city administration,” she said.
The meeting also featured ORI officials including Head of Legal, Cooperation, and Organization Bureau Esti Budiyarti; Chief Assistant for Maladministration Prevention Management Herru Kriswahyu; and Chief Assistant for Quality Management Awidya Mahadewi.
This exchange underscored the shared commitment of both institutions to improving public service accountability and fostering international collaboration in governance. ***
