RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian Consulate General in Jeddah has underlined Saudi Arabia’s firm stance against illegal Hajj activities, noting that authorities are conducting layered inspections and frequent raids to curb violations.

“Security forces in Saudi Arabia, particularly in Mecca, are actively carrying out raids against anyone suspected of involvement in illegal Hajj practices,” Indonesian Consul General in Jeddah, Yusron B. Ambary, said in a statement from Jakarta on Thursday, April 30, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

His remarks followed the arrest of three Indonesian citizens by Saudi security forces on April 28 in Mecca, suspected of participating in unauthorized Hajj arrangements.

Two of them were reportedly wearing attributes resembling official Indonesian Hajj staff uniforms, and their identities are now under verification. Evidence found at their residence pointed to involvement in illegal pilgrimage activities.

Saudi authorities have shared footage on social media showing enforcement operations against individuals attempting to bring pilgrims into Mecca without proper permits (tasreh). Observers also reported buses transporting violators out of the city, underscoring the seriousness of the crackdown.

Yusron said the Consulate General in Jeddah will coordinate closely with Saudi authorities to monitor the legal process. Under instructions from Indonesian Minister of Hajj and Umrah Mochamad Irfan Yusuf, he added, any confirmed staff members involved would face immediate dismissal and blacklisting.

“We urge Indonesian citizens to comply fully with Saudi regulations. Do not risk turning a sacred pilgrimage into a violation,” Yusron stressed.

The incident highlights both Saudi Arabia’s strict enforcement measures and Indonesia’s commitment to safeguarding the integrity of its Hajj operations, ensuring that pilgrims adhere to official procedures for their safety and spiritual journey. ***
