RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Russia is seeking to deepen ties with Indonesia, as President Vladimir Putin invited Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto to attend major economic and industrial events in May and July 2026, including an exhibition in Kazan.
Foreign Affairs Minister Sugiono, in a video recorded in Moscow and broadcast by the Indonesian Presidential Secretariat, said the invitation was extended during a bilateral meeting between the two leaders at the Kremlin Palace on Monday, April 13.
“President Putin also extended an invitation for President Prabowo to attend an event in Kazan, which will be held in May, as well as a major industrial exhibition scheduled for July,” Minister Sugiono said in the official statement confirmed in Jakarta on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
The invitation is part of efforts to strengthen bilateral relations, which are expected to become more intensive and mutually beneficial.
Minister Sugiono, along with Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, accompanied President Prabowo during his bilateral meeting with President Putin at the Kremlin, which was part of his state visit agenda in Moscow.
Following the bilateral talks, the two leaders also held a one-on-one meeting in a separate room within the Kremlin complex. The minister explained that the private meeting took place over lunch.
“The two leaders also discussed several issues related to geopolitical developments that are of concern to both countries,” he said.
He emphasized that Russia is one of Indonesia’s strategic partners and an important trading partner. “Future plans will also focus on strengthening economic relations and people-to-people ties between Russia and Indonesia,” he added.
One of the major events taking place in Kazan this May is the International Economic Forum Russia-Islamic World: Kazan Forum, scheduled for May 12–17, 2026, at Kazan Expo. The forum is organized by the Russian government in cooperation with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
Another major industrial exhibition, the International Innovation Industry Expo (INNOPROM) 2026, is scheduled to take place in Yekaterinburg from July 6-9. ***
