RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Indonesian Foreign Affairs Minister, Sugiono, said Indonesia is encouraging BRICS to leverage its collective strength to ensure that Global South countries have a voice in shaping their shared future. He conveyed the message through his X social media account on Sunday, referring to President Prabowo Subianto’s remarks during the second session of the 18th BRICS Summit at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, India, on Sunday, September 13, 2026.

“Resilience is not measured only by how we withstand shocks, but by turning vulnerability into strength and challenges as opportunities to shape the future we envision,” he said.

The Minister said President Prabowo emphasized that resilience is measured not only by the ability to withstand shocks, but also by the ability to turn vulnerabilities into strengths and challenges into opportunities. According to him, the message is relevant to Indonesia’s position as an archipelagic country located in the Pacific Ring of Fire, with significant potential both on land and at sea.

“As an archipelagic nation situated on the Ring of Fire, Indonesia has long understood this reality. At the same time, our lands and seas hold immense potential to help build a greener, more sustainable future,” Sugiono said.

He added that this potential can be harnessed to support a greener and more sustainable future. Sugiono also said Indonesia is calling on BRICS to optimize its collective strength while strengthening the voice of Global South countries in shaping the direction of the world’s future.

Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, said BRICS has an important role in strengthening collective capacity to contribute to global resilience. He made the statement while attending a restricted session titled “Inclusive Global Governance and Strengthening Multilateralism” at the 2026 BRICS Summit at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, India, on Saturday, September 12, 2026.

“BRICS represents half of all humanity and a large share of the global economy and global trade. BRICS brings together the world’s largest markets and major energy producers. This gives us tremendous collective strength,” the President said.

At the meeting, President Prabowo, emphasized BRICS’ collective strength as an important asset for strengthening global governance, ensuring food and energy security, and creating greater development opportunities for developing countries. Prabowo said mobilizing resources for infrastructure and economic development could strengthen the Global South’s capacity to finance its own future.

“BRICS has a role to play by strengthening our own capacity to contribute to global resilience. By mobilizing resources for infrastructure and development, we can strengthen the capacity of the Global South to finance its own future,” Prabowo said.

The President also said the collective strength could be further optimized through better connectivity among the markets, capital, resources, technology, and knowledge of BRICS countries. He said such connectivity could create greater opportunities for developing countries while strengthening the voice of the Global South in shaping institutions that govern the world, protect and promote peace, and advance justice.

Furthermore, the President emphasized the importance of building a stronger multilateral system capable of supporting the needs and interests of all countries, whether large or small, strong or weak. In this context, President Prabowo said the United Nations (UN) must remain at the center of the multilateral system, but should undergo reforms to become more representative, responsive, and capable of delivering concrete results for people around the world.
