RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Deputy Speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) – Indonesia's national parliament, Hidayat Nur Wahid, strongly condemned the continued Israeli attacks on Lebanon amid a ceasefire agreement between the United States and Iran. He also called on the international community to take firm action to isolate Israel from global relations, including suspending its membership in the United Nations.
"The increasingly massive Israeli attacks, which have killed more than 300 civilians in Lebanon, were carried out precisely during the period when a ceasefire between Iran and the United States had just been agreed upon, initiated by Pakistan. These attacks not only caused significant casualties but also endangered the sustainability of the ceasefire agreement aimed at achieving permanent peace—something hoped for by people worldwide who are affected by the global economic repercussions of the invasion of Iran," he said in a press release in Jakarta on Thursday, 9 April 2026.
Moreover, beyond the attacks on Lebanon, Israel has continued its assaults and what he described as genocide against Palestinians in both Gaza and the West Bank, even after the formation of the Board of Peace (BoP). At a time when the U.S.–Iran ceasefire was beginning to take effect, Israel reportedly fired on civilians in refugee shelters and killed an Al Jazeera journalist, adding to the long list of journalists killed by Israel during periods when peace or ceasefires were in place.
HNW, as he is commonly known, expressed support for Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, who stated that Israel’s actions under Benjamin Netanyahu's leadership violate international law and can no longer be tolerated. Therefore, he emphasized the need for firm and decisive action from the international community, especially the European Union and its member states, to suspend any association agreements with Israel.
"Indeed, there should no longer be impunity for continuous criminal actions that violate international law, as demonstrated by Israel," he said.

Furthermore, HNW stressed that the Arab and Islamic world, particularly Gulf countries, must increasingly recognize the dangers posed by Israel’s actions to regional stability. This is one of the key focuses of the U.S.–Iran ceasefire agreement.
"We have already seen the extraordinary global economic impacts of the war in Iran, in addition to the loss of lives and damaged infrastructure, and a global order that is no longer respected. Now, the ceasefire toward permanent peace is being undermined by Israel through provocations via attacks on Lebanon and Palestine," he said.
HNW also urged Arab and Islamic countries to reconsider and sever those ties, as done by South Africa and several Latin American countries. This includes some Gulf states that had previously been swayed by what he described as Israel’s ‘sweet promises’ through diplomatic normalization
"Israel, with all its violations of international law, is a source of instability in the region that significantly affects global economic stability. There should be no ‘normalization’ of such abnormal behavior," he said.
"If the Spanish Prime Minister’s call for the European Union to suspend its agreements with Israel is followed, and if Arab-Islamic countries that have normalized relations with Israel reassess and cut those ties, then Israel will become increasingly isolated in the international community due to its actions. International law can then be upheld, and the long-awaited peace can be achieved," he said.
