RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia's Ministry of Creative Economy/Creative Economy Agency signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Sunway University Malaysia. This agreement represents a strategic step in expanding networks and strengthening the national creative economy ecosystem globally.

The MoU signing, which took place on Tuesday March 31, also involved several partners, including the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra, Sony Malaysia, Euroasia Kuala Lumpur City Opera (KLCO), and the creative ecosystems in the Sunway Square and Sunway Lagoon areas. This collaboration integrates government, academia, the business world, and the community within a single collaborative ecosystem.

Minister of Creative Economy, Teuku Riefky Harsya, affirmed that this partnership is part of the government's commitment to boosting the competitiveness of Indonesian creative talent internationally.

"In accordance with President Prabowo's directive to emphasize Indonesia's position as an economic hub in Southeast Asia, this partnership is designed to open access for Indonesian talent to learn and collaborate internationally," he said.

As a follow-up, the Ministry of Creative Economy is developing a collaborative program with Sunway University through the Riau Creative Acceleration (AKTIF) initiative. This program is expected to open opportunities for bilateral cooperation in the music subsector, strengthen connections between education and industry, and increase exposure for Indonesian and Malaysian musicians.

According to a release received by RRI Voice of Indonesia on Thursday April 9, 2026, in Jakarta, the Secretary of the Ministry/Principal Secretary of the Ministry of Creative Economy, Dessy Ruhati, underscored that the implementation of this collaboration is directed at concrete programs that directly impact creative talent.

"This collaboration is not merely a ceremonial signing of an MoU, but is directly realized through a concrete program that brings together local Riau talent with selected students from Sunway University in a collaborative creative project targeted for release to coincide with Pekanbaru City's anniversary. This initiative reflects our commitment to strengthening connectivity between academia and industry, expanding exposure for Indonesian musicians on the international stage, and creating opportunities for sustainable cross-border collaboration," she explained.

Through this agreement, both parties agreed to develop various joint initiatives, ranging from knowledge exchange, human resource capacity building, collaborative work production, and the creation of industry opportunities based on real-world practices. This step also aligns with the Ministry's priority of accelerating the music subsector, integrating it with other subsectors.

This collaboration is expected to be a catalyst for opening broader access for young Indonesian creativity to penetrate the global market, while simultaneously strengthening cultural diplomacy through a creative industry approach. The Ministry of Creative Economy is optimistic that this partnership will also have a sustainable impact on national economic growth.
