RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s new partnership with Russia’s intellectual property authority, Rospatent, is expected to strengthen the national IP ecosystem while opening doors for Indonesian innovators to access the Russian market.
Director General of Intellectual Property at the Indonesian Ministry of Law, Hermansyah Siregar, said the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed with Rospatent reflects the Directorate General of Intellectual Property's (DJKI) commitment to expanding international networks to enhance IP protection and utilization.
“Through this collaboration, we aim to build capacity, harness technology, and create broader opportunities for Indonesian innovations and products to compete globally, including in Russia,” Hermansyah stated in Jakarta on Thursday, July 9, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
The MoU, signed in Geneva on July 7, establishes a foundation for deeper cooperation in the IP sector. Key agendas include collaboration on digital data use and patent analysis, capacity building in IP valuation, information exchange, and exploring the Patent Prosecution Highway (PPH) to accelerate patent examinations.
Indonesia and Russia also pledged mutual support at the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), including Indonesia’s proposals at the Standing Committee on Copyright and Related Rights (SCCR) and the development of multilingual systems for WIPO’s international registration.
Both countries will also strengthen protection of geographical indications through shared practices.
As follow-up, Rospatent invited Indonesia to join a project developing an IP valuation website under the Committee on Development and Intellectual Property (CDIP). In return, Indonesia invited Russia to attend the Global Forum on Cross-border Copyright Royalty Governance in Bali this October.
Hermansyah expressed optimism that the partnership will not only safeguard works and innovations but also accelerate the growth of technology-driven businesses and the creative economy, while expanding market access for Indonesian enterprises. ***
