RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s Halal Product Assurance Organizing Agency (BPJPH) and the Australian Embassy in Indonesia signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on halal product assurance cooperation. It aims to support and streamline trade in halal‑certified goods between the two countries.
Witnessed by Australian Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, the Hon Matt Thistlethwaite MP, the MoU was signed by the Head of BPJPH, Ahmad Haikal Hasan, and Australia’s Chargé d’Affaires, Gita Kamath, in Jakarta.
“This MoU marks an important step in strengthening halal cooperation between Indonesia and Australia. By deepening technical dialogue, capacity building and information exchange, we can give confidence to consumers, support Indonesia’s halal ecosystem, and help high‑quality halal products reach our markets,” Haikal Hasan conveyed.
According to a release received by RRI Voice of Indonesia on Monday, July 13, 2026, Indonesia is one of the world’s largest halal markets and is moving toward mandatory halal certification for most food and beverages, and a range of other consumer products from 18 October 2026.
The MoU establishes a formal framework for cooperation on information exchange, technical dialogue and capacity building.
“Indonesia is one of Australia’s closest economic partners and an important market for Australia’s agri‑food exporters, particularly of meat and dairy products,” he said.
This MoU supports two-way trade by strengthening cooperation on halal product assurance and builds on the economic partnership under the Indonesia‑Australia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IA‑CEPA) and the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership,” the Assistant Minister conveyed.
