RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The United Arab Emirates has called the newly announced two-week ceasefire between the United States, Israel, and Iran a crucial opportunity to push for dialogue and stability in the Middle East. The truce, confirmed by US President Donald Trump and involving Israel’s suspension of military operations against Iran during negotiations, has been welcomed by Gulf states and Jordan as a step toward de-escalation.

“We continue to call for de-escalation, ceasefire, and resolution through diplomatic channels. We do not want to see further escalation. Therefore, we hope this becomes the right momentum to encourage dialogue,” said UAE Ambassador to Indonesia, Abdulla Salem Aldhaheri during a press conference in Jakarta on Wednesday evening, April 8, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

Ambassador Aldhaheri stressed that Gulf states and Jordan hope both sides will use the 14-day pause constructively. “We hope that in the next two weeks, positive results can be achieved to strengthen stability and pave the way toward prosperity for our countries,” he said.

He also highlighted the importance of safeguarding global trade and supply chains to prevent economic disruption. “We do not want to see interruptions in trade routes, supply chains, or price hikes, because further disruption benefits no one,” Ambassador Aldhaheri noted.

The ambassador warned that instability only leads to setbacks, with no nation immune to humanitarian, economic, or security consequences. “We have witnessed injuries, loss of life, livelihoods destroyed, and communities unable to travel. We want to see a clear path toward solutions so that mobility can return to normal and essential goods can once again reach their destinations,” he added.

Beyond the ceasefire, Ambassador Aldhaheri emphasized that the UAE, under President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, continues active communication with world leaders, including Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, to encourage de-escalation and international coordination. He noted that GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) states and Jordan are pursuing similar diplomatic efforts, reflecting a united Gulf position.

UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan has also led intensive talks with counterparts worldwide, including Indonesia’s Foreign Minister Sugiono. According to Ambassador Aldhaheri, 136 countries and international organizations have condemned Iran’s aggression, reinforcing global solidarity with the UAE, GCC, and Jordan. This support has been reflected in UN Security Council Resolution 2817 and a Human Rights Council resolution backed by more than 100 nations.

“This shows that the UAE is leading diplomatically while acting in concert with GCC states and Jordan, presenting a united and responsible Gulf voice,” Ambassador Aldhaheri said.

He reiterated that the UAE and its partners firmly condemn Iran’s attacks as violations of international law and the UN Charter, but remain committed to diplomacy. “We will continue to choose stability over escalation, responsibility over reaction, and cooperation over conflict,” he concluded. ***
