RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s parliament welcomed a pledge from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to expand investment and deepen cooperation across sectors, signaling economic ties as a central pillar in the evolving bilateral relationship.

During a meeting at the House of Representatives building in Jakarta on Monday, July 6, 2026, Commission I Speaker Utut Adianto received a delegation from the UAE parliament.

Utut welcomed the UAE’s commitment to increase investment in Indonesia, noting that economic cooperation still has significant room to grow, particularly in tourism.

He also emphasized that relations between the two countries should not rely solely on government-to-government channels but also be strengthened through parliamentary diplomacy.

“The essence of their visit is to reinforce ties between our nations; not only government to government, but also parliament to parliament,” Utut said, as quoted by Antara.

He added that the UAE delegation proposed more frequent communication between legislatures, including virtual meetings to address urgent issues requiring swift coordination.

Ali Rashid Al Nuaimi, who led the UAE delegation, said the visit reflected a shared commitment to broaden cooperation beyond government institutions.

“We are here to activate parliamentary diplomacy and join our brothers in Indonesia’s parliament to strengthen relations. We want to ensure continuous engagement that adds value to the partnership between the UAE and Indonesia,” he remarked.

Ali stressed that parliaments have a responsibility to sustain momentum in bilateral ties while also encouraging collaboration in multilateral forums. He pointed to shared values and interests that could serve as a foundation for addressing global challenges.

“We see many common values that can be promoted, not only for the benefit of Indonesia and the UAE, but also to help create a better future for the world,” Ali said.

The UAE delegation also expressed hope that Indonesia, as a leading voice in ASEAN, could encourage greater involvement of Southeast Asian parliaments in regional dialogue platforms.

The meeting underscored how Indonesia-UAE relations are expanding beyond traditional diplomacy, with economic cooperation, parliamentary engagement, and multilateral collaboration emerging as key areas of growth. ***
