RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Russia has signaled its readiness to deepen cooperation with the Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) through the arrival of a naval task group at Tanjung Priok Port, North Jakarta. A Russian contingent, including a corvette and an advanced submarine, docked at the to strengthen maritime partnership and friendship.
Russian Ambassador to Indonesia, Sergei Tolchenov, emphasized that the visit -- running from March 29 to April 2 -- was not a show of force but a gesture of partnership. The contingent includes the corvette Gromky-335, the submarine Petropavlovsk Kamchatsky B-274, and the tugboat Andrey Stepanov.
“Our presence poses no threat to neighboring countries or others in the region. On the contrary, it symbolizes our readiness to work with Indonesia through joint exercises and knowledge exchange,” Ambassador Tolchenov said, as quoted by Antara.
He added that the visit also aims to showcase Russia’s modern naval technology, highlighting the Petropavlovsk Kamchatsky as one of the world’s most advanced submarines and the Gromky-335 as a flagship of the Pacific Fleet.
Russia expressed openness to sharing its expertise and platforms with Indonesia, noting similarities in naval assets but suggesting opportunities for future adoption of Russian systems to enhance Indonesia’s maritime defense.
Deputy Commander of the Pacific Fleet’s Northeastern Forces, Rear Admiral Evgeny N. Myasoedov, underscored the long-standing ties between the two navies. “For years, we have conducted joint exercises, staff-level training, and reciprocal visits to strengthen our friendship and partnership,” he said.
The visit also carries a broader message of promoting peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific. Myasoedov emphasized that Russia supports normal inter-state relations and believes naval cooperation should be built on mutual understanding and a commitment to maintaining regional security.
Indonesia previously welcomed Russian Pacific Fleet vessels in May 2025, when the corvettes Aldar Tsidenzhapov-339 and Rezkiy-343, along with the tanker Pechenga, joined the Multilateral Naval Exercise Komodo (MNEK) 2025, coinciding with the 75th anniversary of Indonesia-Russia diplomatic relations. ***
