RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian National Alms Agency (BAZNAS RI) has established three emergency mosques in Gaza, Palestine, to provide worship facilities for communities affected by the ongoing humanitarian crisis.

The mosques were built in three locations: Asdaa Region Northwest Khan Younis, Abu Ali Eyad Street, and Deir Al-Balah. According to BAZNAS RI’s Secretary-General, H. Subhan Cholid, Lc., MA., the initiative was launched in response to the urgent need for places of worship amid prolonged conflict.

“Alhamdulillah, three emergency mosques have been completed and are already in use during Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr. Each mosque covers about 180 square meters and can accommodate up to 100 people,” Subhan said in a written statement from Jakarta on Monday, March 30, 2026, as quoted on the BAZNAS official website.

He explained that the ongoing conflict has severely damaged public facilities, including mosques, limiting the community’s ability to carry out religious activities. The emergency mosques, he added, serve as a quick solution to ensure residents still have safe and proper spaces for worship.

Beyond their physical function, Subhan emphasized that the mosques symbolize solidarity from the Indonesian people toward Palestine. “This is a reflection of Indonesia’s care and unity with the people of Palestine,” said Subhan, who also serves as Secretary of the BAZNAS Palestine Task Force.

He expressed hope that the mosques would not only support worship but also act as communal spaces to strengthen social bonds during times of hardship. Subhan further extended his gratitude to all contributors, particularly zakat donors (muzaki), whose support made the construction possible.

“The establishment of these mosques is inseparable from the generosity of muzaki who entrusted their zakat, infak, and sadaqah to BAZNAS. We hope these mosques will help the people of Gaza worship with greater devotion and comfort despite the difficult circumstances,” he said.

During Ramadan 1447 H/2026, BAZNAS also continued distributing humanitarian aid to Palestine, including food packages, hot meals, healthcare services, clean water, clothing, family tents, blankets, emergency mosques, and classroom tents to support community learning activities. ***
