RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, together with PT Pertamina International Shipping (PIS), a subsidiary of state-owned oil and gas producer PT Pertamina, has begun discussions on the technical procedures for releasing two Pertamina tankers stuck in the Strait of Hormuz, following a positive response from Iran to Indonesia’s negotiation efforts.

“PIS and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are currently discussing the technical procedures to ensure the two vessels, the Pertamina Pride and Gamsunoro, can safely pass through the Strait of Hormuz,” said Vega Pita, Acting Corporate Secretary of Pertamina International Shipping, when contacted from Jakarta on Saturday, March 28, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

The Pertamina Pride operates to meet national energy needs, while the Gamsunoro serves as an energy distribution channel for third parties. Vega said the two vessels remain in the Arabian Gulf/Persian Gulf, and Pertamina’s priority is the safety of all crew members, as well as the security of the vessels and their cargo.

“We implore the prayers and assistance of all Indonesians so that this procedure may be carried out successfully,” Vega said, while also expressing gratitude to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for its support.

Since the closure of the Strait of Hormuz due to conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran, PIS has coordinated closely with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which has also engaged in diplomatic communication with relevant authorities. “To date, these diplomatic efforts are ongoing,” Vega said.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the Iranian government has responded positively to Indonesia’s request to allow the two Pertamina tankers to pass safely.

According to Ministry Spokesperson Vahd Nabyl A. Mulachela, the ministry and the Indonesian Embassy in Tehran have been coordinating with all relevant parties in Iran to ensure the security of the tankers.

“As things progress, there has been a positive response from the Iranian side,” Nabyl said in Jakarta on Friday, March 27, 2026.
