RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia joined world leaders in honoring the late Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, with Ambassador Rolliansyah Soemirat representing the government at the funeral ceremonies in Tehran.
The participation underscored Indonesia’s commitment to diplomatic respect and international solidarity. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Yvonne Mewengkang confirmed that Indonesia accepted Iran’s official invitation and designated its ambassador in Tehran to attend.
“Indonesia was represented by Ambassador Rolliansyah at the funeral,” she said in a statement from Jakarta on Saturday, June 4, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
Ambassador Rolliansyah was present at Tehran’s Grand Musalla, where Khamenei’s body lay in state, offering prayers alongside dignitaries.
According to Iran’s IRNA news agency, the ceremonies began Friday, July 3, and continued through the weekend before further processions in Qom, Baghdad, Karbala, Najaf, and finally Mashhad, where burial is scheduled for July 9.
Iran expressed appreciation for Indonesia’s formal representation. The funeral drew numerous foreign leaders, including Iraq’s President Nizar Amidi, Tajikistan’s President Emomali Rahmon, Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, and Russia’s Dmitry Medvedev as envoy of President Vladimir Putin. Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also attended as head of his country’s delegation.
Indonesia’s presence at the ceremonies highlighted its role in maintaining respectful diplomatic ties while acknowledging the significance of the event for Iran and the wider region. ***
