RR.CO.ID, Tokyo - Thousands of Indonesian citizens (WNI) gathered to perform the Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijri prayer at the Indonesian Mosque in Tokyo (MIT), Japan, on Saturday, with the number of worshippers estimated to reach between 7,000 and 8,000. The Eid prayer was conducted in five waves to accommodate the large number of attendees at the Indonesian School Tokyo complex.
The event was organized through collaboration between the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo, the Indonesian Muslim Community in Japan (KMII), and various Indonesian community groups in Japan. “Currently, there are approximately 250,000 Indonesians spread across Japan with various professions. We are grateful to have completed the holy month of Ramadan and now gather in unity to celebrate Eid al-Fitr,” Indonesian Ambassador to Japan and the Federated States of Micronesia, Nurmala Kartini Sjahrir conveyed.
She added that Eid al-Fitr serves as an important moment to strengthen solidarity and unity among Indonesians abroad. “On this Eid occasion, let us uphold the spirit of unity, brotherhood, and togetherness, while continuing to foster friendship with Japan by respecting local norms, culture, and values,” she said.
Meanwhile, Chairman of KMII Japan, Erwin Avianto, expressed appreciation for the full support from the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo in organizing Ramadan activities and the Eid prayer.
In his sermon, the imam and khatib of the Eid prayer, Ustaz Nasril Albab Mochamad, highlighted three key characteristics of a pious individual in celebrating Eid. “Those who truly celebrate Eid are those who bring happiness to others, continuously improve themselves in goodness, and spread compassion to all humanity,” Nasril said.
After the prayer, attendees were served light Indonesian snacks. A participant from Kumamoto, Poppy, praised the event’s organization.
“The arrangements were very orderly, from the moment I got off the bus until the prayer itself,” she said. A day earlier, the Muhammadiyah branch in Japan also held an Eid prayer in the Shibuya area of Tokyo.
The Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo affirmed its continued support for community activities among Indonesians in Japan, including religious events.
