RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Despite ongoing tensions in the Gulf region, the Indonesian Consulate General in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, hosted a peaceful Idul Fitri prayer gathering, drawing more than 2,000 members of the Indonesian diaspora.
Consul General Yusron Ambary emphasized that the atmosphere in Jeddah remained calm and conducive for the celebration.
“Alhamdulillah, the situation here is still safe, and during this festive moment, thousands of Indonesians in Jeddah and nearby areas were able to come together for Eid al-Fitr prayers at Wisma Indonesia,” Yusron said Saturday, March 21, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
The event, held on Friday, March 20, was described as a cherished occasion for Indonesians abroad, offering a chance to reconnect and share the joy of the holiday. For many migrant workers, Yusron noted, celebrating “the day of victory” far from family was deeply meaningful.
The program began with Eid al-Fitr prayers and a sermon, followed by a halalbihalal gathering. To recreate the atmosphere of home, the consulate served traditional dishes such as ketupat sayur, opor ayam, kentang balado, and Indonesian crackers.
Some attendees even traveled long distances, including from Rabigh, a city about 150 kilometers north of Jeddah, underscoring the strong enthusiasm of the community.
Muslims across Saudi Arabia, including Indonesians living there, marked the end of Ramadan and the arrival of Eid al-Fitr 1447 H on March 20, 2026.
In contrast, the Indonesian Embassy in Riyadh canceled its communal Eid prayer plans, citing regional developments. Through its official Instagram account, the embassy advised Indonesian citizens to perform prayers at nearby mosques and follow local authorities’ guidance. ***
