Indonesian Policewoman Takes Peacekeeping Role in Africa

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Indonesian policewoman Brigadier Police Tiara Nisa has taken on international assignments as part of Indonesia’s contribution to global peacekeeping missions. A member of the Indonesian National Police’s International Relations Division, Tiara has served twice in the United Nations peacekeeping mission in the Central African Republic.

Tiara’s first deployment was as part of the Female Police Unit (FPU) under the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic, or MINUSCA, from 2019 to 2020. The assignment placed her among Indonesian women police officers working to support peace and security in a challenging environment.

She returned to the Central African Republic for a second assignment as an Individual Police Officer (IPO) under MINUSCA from 2024 to 2026. Through the two missions, Tiara gained experience working in an international environment while representing Indonesia on the global stage.

Before returning to international peacekeeping, Tiara also had the opportunity to pursue postgraduate studies at the Turkish National Police Academy. She completed a non-thesis master’s program and was selected as one of the five best students in her program.

Her achievement in Turkey brought another memorable experience. Tiara was trusted to deliver a speech representing international students at a graduation event attended by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

For Tiara, studying alongside students from different countries was also an opportunity to exchange cultures and demonstrate the capabilities of Indonesians in an international environment. She said her experiences abroad had strengthened her belief that Indonesian women can make meaningful contributions wherever they are assigned.

Interestingly, Tiara said her childhood dream was simply to travel around the world. Her interest in looking at maps during school eventually became a reality through her career in the Indonesian National Police, taking her from Indonesia to Turkey and Africa.

Ahead of Indonesia’s Policewomen Day, Tiara encouraged women police officers across the country to continue creating positive change both nationally and internationally. She emphasized that policewomen should not merely be seen as part of the ranks, but as active agents of change and role models wherever they serve.
