RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – A somber atmosphere was felt at the residence of the Iranian Ambassador to Indonesia in Jakarta on Thursday, 5 March 2026, as a joint prayer gathering and petition-signing were held to commemorate the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei. Participants recited verses from the Quran, performed dhikr, and prayed for Khamenei, with some attendees weeping.

Iran’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Mohammad Boroujerdi, said they had received many condolences from various segments of Indonesian society. Among them was a letter from Indonesia’s President, Prabowo Subianto, expressing condolences for Khamenei’s passing.

“In the past few days, we have received a great number of messages of solidarity from the people of Indonesia. We have also received an official letter of condolence from His Excellency Mr. Prabowo Subianto regarding the incident that occurred," he said.

"Many academicians, intellectuals, teachers, business people, representatives of mass organizations, religious scholars, and various public figures have conveyed their solidarity and messages of condolence. We apologize if we have not yet been able to respond to them one by one," he said.

On that occasion, Boroujerdi said he had received suggestions that Prabowo could serve as a mediator in the conflict between Iran and the coalition of the United States and Israel. However, he emphasized that Iran would not negotiate with them this time.

“Regarding the proposal conveyed by the honorable leader of Indonesia, this proposal has been put forward, and our response is that we will not accept any negotiations with America—we do not trust them," he said.

"We have negotiated with them three times, and each time at the end of the negotiations or in the middle of them, they betrayed us. And we will pay the price for America’s crime on the battlefield," he conveyed.

Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, was previously reported to have died in a missile strike on the Khamenei residential compound in Iran’s capital, Tehran, on Saturday, 28 February 2026, by U.S.-Israel joint forces. The attack triggered retaliatory actions from Iran targeting U.S. military bases in the Middle Eastern countries such as Bahrain and Qatar.

Hundreds of people flocked to the residence to pay their respects to Khamenei, pray for him, and write condolences. Some Indonesian figures were seen attending the event.

One of the figures who expressed his condolences is Former Minister of Youth and Sports, Roy Suryo. He offered special encouragement to the Iranian people amidst the current war and hoped it would not last long.

"I personally express my deepest condolences and support for the Iranian people. There is no such thing as a 'world police'," he said as interviewed by the RRI's news radio RRI Programa 3.

Meanwhile, Director of the Foundation for Friendship and the Study of Civilizations (YPSP), Ahed Abu Al-Atta, said that the Israeli occupation wants to control the Arab world. All of this, he said, is aimed at achieving the "Zionist project of building a larger state".

"However, we believe that this aggression, God willing, will fail, and the occupation will lose this round," Ahed conveyed.
