RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - As regional instability disrupts travel across the Gulf, the Indonesian Embassy in Abu Dhabi and Consulate General in Dubai are stepping up efforts to safeguard citizens stranded in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Official UAE data show around 20,000 international visitors have been affected, including 36 Indonesians unable to continue their journeys.

Ambassador Judha Nugraha confirmed that the Indonesian missions have identified and documented all 36 nationals, 23 in Dubai and 13 in Abu Dhabi. To streamline assistance, they have been grouped into a dedicated communication channel, enabling coordinated support ranging from extended accommodation to independent repatriation options.

“This approach ensures every Indonesian receives timely, measured, and responsive assistance,” Ambassador Judha said in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, as quoted by Antara, emphasizing the government’s commitment to maximum protection for its citizens abroad.

On Monday evening, March 2, the embassy and consulate held a virtual gathering with affected Indonesians, providing updates while also listening to their concerns. The forum served as an open dialogue to address challenges such as prolonged stays and limited flight availability.

Indonesian representatives have facilitated extended lodging, administrative assistance, and real-time travel updates. For those seeking faster return options, the missions have offered guidance on independent repatriation via land routes through Oman, stressing compliance with local regulations and safety considerations.

The UAE government has also moved swiftly to prevent visitors from being stranded. Through a directive from Abu Dhabi’s Department of Culture and Tourism, hotels were instructed to extend stays for affected travelers, with additional costs covered by the authorities. This measure underscores the UAE’s determination to uphold its reputation as a global hub that prioritizes visitor safety and comfort.

The disruption stems from heightened tensions following Iranian retaliatory strikes across the Gulf. Hundreds of drones and missiles were launched, most intercepted by UAE defenses, though falling debris caused civilian casualties and damage.

In response, airlines including Etihad Airways temporarily suspended flights to and from the UAE until at least March 4, 2026, though some routes have gradually reopened.

Indonesian authorities continue to urge citizens in the Gulf region to remain vigilant, register their presence through official channels, and follow local security advisories. Ambassador Judha reiterated that close coordination with UAE authorities remains essential to ensure protection and safe onward travel for Indonesians. ***
