RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Ministry for the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (KP2MI) has initiated strategic discussions with Indonesian diplomatic missions across the United States (US) to explore new labor market opportunities for Indonesian migrant workers (PMI).

During a virtual meeting held on Friday, August 21, 2026, Deputy Minister Christina Aryani met with Indonesian Ambassador to the United States Indroyono Soesilo alongside representatives from all Indonesian Consulates General (KJRI) across the US. The inter-agency dialogue focused on establishing formal job order verification processes, analyzing American labor regulations, and identifying high-demand sectors suited for skilled Indonesian labor.

Potential growth areas identified for placement include maritime crew, hospitality, caregiving, nursing, specialized welding, and commercial truck driving. Both KP2MI and diplomatic representatives noted that further legal reviews, specifically regarding US work visa requirements and procedural compliance, will be conducted to ensure that candidate placements prioritize worker safety, competitive wages, and legal protection.

Government officials and labor protection leaders emphasized that diversifying overseas job markets aims to elevate professional skill standards while embedding legal safeguards at every stage of placement. Christina Aryani highlighted the collaborative framework required to navigate foreign employment landscapes.

"We agreed to build closer cooperation through job order verification assistance, placement regulation alignment, and diplomatic support to introduce the market and identify employment opportunities in the US, while several aspects, especially visa frameworks, require deeper study, the potential is clear, and we will follow up together," Deputy Minister Christina said in Jakarta on Saturday, August 22, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

She reaffirmed that expanding into high-income labor markets will focus strictly on quality, procedural compliance, and security rather than simple placement quotas.

"Our core goal is to open opportunities in the US with the help of Indonesian diplomatic missions while ensuring the entire process adheres to regulation and prioritizes worker protection," Christina added. ***
