RRI.CO.ID, Amman – As Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto departed for Jordan as part of his Middle East tour, the Indonesian presidential aircraft was once again escorted by Jordanian fighter jets. This is a repeat of a similar escort last year, as Prabowo went to the Hashemite country.
Two F-16 aircraft belonging to the Royal Jordanian Air Force escorted the Indonesian presidential plane on its left and right on Tuesday, 24 February 2026, accompanying Prabowo to Marka Air Force Base in Amman. An F-16 pilot conveyed an honor salute on behalf of King Abdullah II via radio from the cockpit.
"Your Excellency, Mr. President, Assalamu'alaikum warahmatullah (Peace and God's mercy be upon you). This is Lion One speaking. Your Excellency, on behalf of His Majesty King Abdullah II and the people of Jordan, we are honoured to welcome you to Jordanian airspace," the pilot said, as quoted from the Indonesian Presidential Secretariat on Wednesday, 25 February 2026.
"It's a great honour to escort your flight this evening. Wishing you a blessed stay and a safe landing. Ramadan Mubarak, Sir," he continued, as he wished Prabowo on the holy Islamic month of Ramadan.
In response to the greeting, President Prabowo expressed his appreciation and gratitude for the honour. He also asked that his regards be conveyed to the pilot’s commander and to King Abdullah II, and wished them a blessed Ramadan.
"I would like to thank you and your flight for receiving me, for escorting me. And please pass on to your commanding officer and his majesty. How pleased I am to be back here in Amman, in Jordan. Thank you very much," Prabowo said.
"Once again, Ramadan Mubarak. Wish you all the best in this holy month. Wassalamualaikum warrahmatullahi wabarakatuh (Peace be upon you, as well as the mercy of God and His blessings)," he concluded.
The Jordanian escort was not the first. During Prabowo’s visit to Jordan in April 2025, the Indonesian presidential aircraft was also escorted by Royal Jordanian Air Force fighter jets as a gesture of respect for Indonesia and for Prabowo.
"Tiger-101, this is Indonesia One. I am Prabowo Subianto, President of the Republic of Indonesia. Thank you for receiving me, thank you for escorting me. Please pass on to your commander my greatest appreciation. Thank you very much. Syukran (thank you)," Prabowo said before his airplane landed.
The F-16 is a fighter jet now manufactured by the American company Lockheed Martin, with over 4,000 units sold since its first production in 1976. It is currently operated by 25 countries, including Indonesia and Jordan, while several other countries formerly operated the jet.
