RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Belarusian President, Aleksandr Lukashenko, praised the longstanding relations between Belarus and Indonesia during his visit to Indonesia on Thursday, July 2, 2026. He said that Indonesia would always remain one of Belarus's key partners in Southeast Asia.

"Today, in international forums, Minsk and Jakarta demonstrate their shared goals and mutual support. Indonesia has been, is, and will continue to be one of Belarus's principal partners in Southeast Asia," he said in a joint press statement following the signing ceremony in Merdeka Palace, Jakarta.

"And you know, if we had only one friend like Indonesia, that would be enough for us," he continued, as he delivered his remarks beside the Indonesian President, Prabowo Subianto.

Lukashenko, considered the longest-serving head of state in Europe, said friendship and cooperation have linked both countries for over 30 years. He recalled the Belarusian past years, especially when it was still a constituent republic of the Soviet Union.

"Sincere friendship and fruitful cooperation have linked our countries for over 30 years... Our (previous) republic, the BSSR (Byelorussian Soviet Socialist Republic), already had experience interacting with Indonesia," the President conveyed.

Lukashenko said Belarus had sided with Indonesia since the latter fought to defend its independence during the Indonesian National Revolution in 1945-1949. Even though Belarus was a part of the Soviet Union, it has had an independent mission in the United Nations (UN) since the UN's inception.

"From the very first sessions of the UN Assembly, the Belarusian delegation categorically opposed the colonial oppression of Indonesia and demanded an end to attempts to suppress Indonesian independence by military means. You successfully addressed this issue," he said.
