Leading the UNHRC, Indonesia Affirms Palestinian Rights Cannot Be Taken Away

RRI.CO.ID, Geneva — Indonesia's Foreign Minister, Sugiono, reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment to continuously playing a role in addressing conflicts and humanitarian disasters worldwide, including through its unwavering support for Palestinian independence and efforts toward conflict resolution in Myanmar. He also expressed Indonesia’s deep concern over conflicts and humanitarian crises occurring in various parts of the world, particularly in Palestine.
“Regarding Palestine, Indonesia reaffirms its firm support for their inalienable rights,” Sugiono stated in his statement at the 61st session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland, Monday, 23 February 2026.
The mnjdtralso urged that all forms of violence in Palestine be immediately halted and that humanitarian access be ensured swiftly, fully, safely, and without obstruction. Indonesia also supports the achievement of a just and lasting peace in Palestine based on the two-state solution, which has become an international consensus.
Furthermore, Sugiono reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment at the ASEAN level to continue encouraging the effective implementation of the Five-Point Consensus (5PC) as a basis for ending the conflict in Myanmar. He also conveyed Indonesia’s determination to strengthen the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) as a mechanism for the protection and promotion of human rights in Southeast Asia.
“We remain committed to strengthening the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission for Human Rights as a mechanism for promotion and protection,” hr said.
Sugiono also emphasized that Indonesia continues to call for an immediate halt to violence in Palestine, unhindered humanitarian access, and a credible pathway toward a just and lasting peace based on the two-state solution. Upholding international humanitarian law is a shared responsibility.
The 61st session of the UN Human Rights Council marks the first session chaired by Indonesia through Indonesia’s Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva, Ambassador Sidharto R. Suryodipuro, since the body was established in 2006. The session runs from 23 February to 31 March 2026.
