RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto, received a visit from a delegation from the Islamic Republic of Pakistan at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Thursday, 12 February 2026. The meeting discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation across strategic sectors and coordination in international forums.

Pakistan’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Zahid H Chaudhary, emphasized the long-standing relationship between the two countries, noting that ties between their peoples existed even before independence.

“Pakistan and Indonesia are two brotherly countries. We have historically enjoyed excellent bilateral relations. And I am so glad to say that these relations between our two people existed even before the independence of both our countries,” Zahid stated to the reporters after the meeting at the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta.

Moreover, he said bilateral relations have entered a broader phase following President Prabowo’s visit to Pakistan last month, which he described as a significant turning point in already strong relations. In recent months, exchanges of high-level officials from both countries have intensified across defense, investment, and health sectors.

“Last month, when the Indonesian President visited Pakistan, I would say that was a complete turnaround in our already very good bilateral relations,” he stated.

Zahid also highlighted the global significance of the partnership, noting that Indonesia and Pakistan together represent more than one-fourth of the world’s Muslim population. He stressed that the two countries also continue to collaborate in various international forums to advance shared interests

“Because Indonesia and Pakistan, together, we are more than one-fourth of the entire world's Muslim population. So, it is very important that our two countries work together bilaterally, as well as through all available platforms, including the UN, the OIC, the D-8, and ASEAN. So, we look forward to further strengthening our cooperation with Indonesia,” Zahid conveyed.

In the defense sector, the ambassador said collaboration has been progressing well, including training programs for Indonesian armed forces officers, and will continue to be enhanced. Zahid also expressed Pakistan's high hopes for Indonesia's role in the Developing Eight (D-8) Summit. He also conveyed Pakistan's commitment to supporting the D-8 Summit in Indonesia next April.
