Indonesia Pushes for Stronger Economic Cooperation at ASEAN-Russia Summit

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia's Foreign Affairs Minister, Sugiono, has called for stronger cooperation with Russia in the areas of food and energy security, as well as enhanced interregional economic integration. He made the statement during the Summit commemorating the 35th anniversary of the ASEAN-Russia partnership held in Kazan, Russia, on June 17-18, 2026.

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson, Vahd Ahmad Nabyl Mulachela, said on Thursday that Sugiono attended the summit as Head of Delegation, representing President Prabowo Subianto.

"During the meeting, Indonesia will promote stronger cooperation with Russia, particularly in the areas of food and energy security, as well as enhanced interregional economic integration. Indonesia will also promote cooperation in advancing global peace and stability," Nabyl said in a statement received in Jakarta on Thursday.

According to him, the summit was convened to commemorate and review the achievements of the ASEAN-Russia partnership over the past 35 years, while also charting the direction of future cooperation to ensure it remains relevant in addressing various regional and global challenges.

"Indonesia will also promote cooperation in advancing global peace and stability," he said.

Nabyl said Sugiono's participation on behalf of President Prabowo underscored Indonesia's commitment to further strengthening a concrete and mutually beneficial partnership with Russia, both bilaterally and within the ASEAN framework.

This year's ASEAN-Russia Summit marks the 35th anniversary of relations between ASEAN and Russia and will discuss the future direction of cooperation between the two sides amid evolving regional and global dynamics.
