RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Iran’s Ambassador to Indonesia Mohammad Boroujerdi said the United States lacks credibility to lead peace initiatives in Gaza, arguing that Washington’s open support for Israel undermines its role as a mediator.

Speaking on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at a reception marking Iran’s National Day in Jakarta, Boroujerdi said any peace process in Gaza or other occupied territories should be initiated by neutral countries or independent international organizations.

“We believe such efforts will not succeed, because the Zionist regime of Israel is the occupying power. That regime is openly supported by the United States,” he said, as quoted by Antara.

Boroujerdi stressed that peace in Gaza or other occupied territories should be initiated by neutral actors.

“If they already have a side, they have no right to speak about mediation or peace processes or councils or anything like that,” he said, referring to the United States.

Boroujerdi also addressed rising tensions between Iran and the United States, saying Iran has the capacity to defend itself but does not seek conflict.

“We are capable of defending ourselves. We have strength, but we have no desire to conflict with anyone,” he further said.

The statement came after indirect nuclear talks between Iran and the United States were held in Muscat, Oman, last Friday, following President Trump’s claim that “large armadas” were heading toward Iran.

Responding to widespread protests in Iran late last year, Boroujerdi said the matter was Iran’s internal affair.

“As I said, this is Iran’s domestic issue and has nothing to do with other countries as a reason to interfere in Iran’s affairs,” he continued.

He added that Iran’s priority remains peace, stability, public welfare, and economic growth, while rejecting external pressure.

“We are going through a difficult period, but we will not accept bullying from abroad. We will not bribe any country to have our peace and security respected. We stand and defend our interests with our own strength,” he emphasized.

Boroujerdi also welcomed Indonesia’s leadership of the UN Human Rights Council for the 2026 term, saying it could help promote a fairer global order.

“Indonesia’s leadership at the Human Rights Council provides a valuable opportunity for our two countries, together with other independent nations, to operationalize a shared vision of a more just and balanced world order,” he concluded. ***
