President Prabowo Presents Indonesia's Highest Order to India's PM Narendra Modi

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto conferred the Star of the Republic of Indonesia - Adipurna (First Class) order on the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Jakarta on Tuesday, July 7, 2026. Prabowo presented the order to Modi during a state visit to the Merdeka Palace.

"Today, as President of the Republic of Indonesia, I would like to express my gratitude to His Excellency Prime Minister Narendra Modi for accepting the highest honor awarded by the Republic of Indonesia, the Star of the Republic of Indonesia - Adipurna," President Prabowo said in a joint press statement with PM Modi, as quoted from the secretariat.

Indonesia's Presidential Secretariat said the presentation was a form of "respect and appreciation from the Indonesian people" for Modi's role in strengthening Indonesia-India relations. Prabowo said the order, the highest among Indonesia's honorary orders, honors Modi's significant role in the development of relations between the two countries.

"This order is (conferred in recognition) of his leadership and his contributions to strengthening Indonesia–India relations to the level of a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership," Prabowo said.

"(It) also recognizes his sustained efforts to enhance cooperation between Indonesia and India, as well as his support for various programs and projects that have contributed to Indonesia's development," he said.

On the same occasion, PM Modi expressed his appreciation and respect for the order. He stated that this highest award reflects the long-standing close friendship between the two nations.

"This honor belongs to an Indian and stems from the positive sentiments between our two countries, reflecting the close and historic ties between Indonesia and India. I express my deepest gratitude to President Prabowo, the Indonesian government, and the Indonesian people," Modi said.

The decoration, named in Indonesian as “Bintang Republik Indonesia”, consists of a star on a yellow and red sash, as well as a breast star on the left chest. The star bears the letter "RI", meaning "the Republic of Indonesia".

India's first PM, Jawaharlal Nehru, was presented the same order in 1995, in which Prabowo said Nehru was awarded for strengthening both nations' relations and his contributions as an initiator of the Non-Aligned Movement. Several world leaders have received the order before, including King Salman of Saudi Arabia and PM Xanana Gusmão of East Timor.
